Bridges Bikes and Blues
Eaton, Ohio – February 1, 2013 – The Preble County Historical Society’s Annual Ride Fund Raiser is one of the newest but possibly the best benefit tours in Ohio, offering beautiful scenery, small town hospitality plus a rare chance to drive across one of the oldest double-barrel covered bridges in the USA as well the opportunity to drive across the brand new Hueston Woods covered bridge!
In its third year, “Bridges, Bikes and Blues” kicks off on June 15th putting Preble County Ohio's rural landscape and historic covered bridges on display. The cruise then transitions into a great party and concert complete with smoking hot-blues bands, great food, and an outdoor beer garden. It will be a perfect day out for folks who are seeking a comfortable cruise touring eight covered bridges with plenty of amazing historic scenery. The inaugural event received rave reviews from participants, residents, and local businesses. And the best part is that this tour is not just for motorcycles, all motorized vehicles are welcome to participate as well!
Organized by and for the benefit of The Preble County Historical Society, the “Bridges, Bikes and Blues” cruise is designed to take guests on a relaxing, scenic ride of approximately 75 miles, showcasing Preble County's beautiful landscape and an almost unmatched collection of historic covered bridges. Over the years, Preble County has had a total of 32 covered bridges. Today seven historic covered bridges survive and are preserved, including the Roberts double-barrel covered bridge. It is the oldest covered bridge in the state of Ohio, built in 1829, it’s the second oldest in the US, and one of six remaining double-barreled covered bridges in the US. As participants visit each of the bridges, they will certainly notice that each offers a unique visual appeal, charm, and individual history. History buffs and riders who like to document their rides will want to pack a camera. At most of the bridges there is an opportunity to stop and snap a photograph.
Guests are invited to arrive at the Preble County Historical Center for ride registration and a pancake breakfast starting at 9am. Roll out from the Historical Center is scheduled to begin at 12:30pm. Last year over 1000 bikes registered in the event crisscrossing the county, visiting historic sites and exploring a county that lives and loves motorcycles. Event organizers are confident they can easily handle twice that many participants so the society is ramping up its marketing efforts to get maximum participation. COST: $20 per bike or auto/vehicle (paid registration includes 8 tickets for great raffle prizes & 1 FREE event t-shirt). Extra t-shirts will be available for purchase.
For guests who want to cruise on their own and not travel with the group, you can meet up with the crowd at 4:00pm for plenty of great blues music, local vendors, music, food and a beer garden will be waiting for your enjoyment!
Riders will be able to enter their bikes in a show contest with 8 different categories, all sponsored by Eaton Barbell! Like every good party, there will be contests and raffle opportunities!
For the avid runners, a 5K run will be held starting at Eaton High School at 8:45 am with the chance to run across the Roberts double-barrel covered bridge! Run registration begins at 7:30am, is only $20, includes a free event t-shirt, medals for top 3 finishers in age group categories, and a historic good time running through historic Eaton, Ohio!
From an entertainment perspective, the performers scheduled for “Bridges, Bikes and Blues” will be top-notch. Watch for more news in the near future about our exciting blues musicians!
