Past Green Tips of the Day:

Check Your Air Filter: A clean air filter can improve gas mileage by as much as 10%, and nearly one in four cars needs an air filter replacement. If you own a home, try placing your air conditioner out of direct sun. If that's not possible, consider building a shelter to provide shade and help it run more efficiently.Reduce your water flow when you turn on the water to wash your hands, dishes and fruits and vegetables - try making the water flow the width of a pencil - to help reduce cost and save resources.Recycle your shopping plastic bags at your local grocery store - better yet - purchase reusable totes for your next purchase.Packing your kids lunch? Pack a waste free lunch with reusable containers - and pack items that don't need wrappers - like apples and bananas. Go Paperless! Check with your bank and consider online banking. Save time and paper by using online bill pay and direct deposit.Save money and ink! When printing, to save on ink, click on Preferences, then click the Paper/Quality tab, then on Draft. It will print out lighter than on the regular setting, but it's readable and saves on cartridge ink. Ditch the Plastic - 2.5 million individual plastic water bottles are thrown away every hour in the US. Start using a reusable water bottle and just say no to plastic! An easy way to clean green is to turn the dial on your washing machine to cold. Most loads don't need hot water, and 90% of the energy used by washing machines goes into heating.
