HIGHWAY CREWS PREPARE FOR ROUND #2
(Whitewater Valley)--Road crews and emergency personnel are taking advantage of a two-day reprieve in between snowstorms.  In Wayne County alone, there were more than 150 calls for service that could be directly attributed to the snow over the weekend and road crews worked around the clock.  There were dozens of accidents over the weekend, including one in Wayne County that claimed the lives of two Miami University students.  21-year-old Brendan Burke and 18-year-old Michael Reedy died on Friday when their SUV slid sideways into the path of an oncoming pickup truck on US 35 northwest of Economy.  Burke is the son of Brian Burke, who is the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the US Olympic hockey team.  The driver of the truck, 24-year-old Michael Moreland of Lynn, was not hurt.  Road crews will deal with another round of snow soon.   How much?  "4-6 inches when we are all said and done and this snow tapers of (Tuesday) night.  Some isolated areas could see 7-8 inches.  A little more Wednesday.  I don't expect a lot, but we're gonna add to the road problems," said Rich Wirdzek from Newscenter 7 Monday morning.  The entire area is under a winter storm watch through Wednesday afternoon.

PRE-TRIAL HEARING SCHEDULED FOR McFARLAND
(Richmond, IN)--James McFarland is due back in a Wayne County court Monday.  McFarland faced charges related to the death of Centerville’s Erin Stanley.  Those charges were dropped a year ago when the pathologist in the case changed his opinion.  Monday’s hearing has nothing to do with that case.  It’s a pre-trial hearing related to a car theft.  McFarland was arrested last summer at the Martindale Fishing Lake in Jacksonburg.  He was allegedly driving a car that had been stolen in Missouri.  McFarland has been held without bail in the Wayne County Jail because of child support issues in Jennings County.  Missouri investigators also want McFarland for the car theft.  His trial is set for March 16 in Wayne County.

JOHNS HOPKINS REP TO RE-VISIT RHS
(Richmond, IN)--The Richmond Community School District this week will host a guest from Johns Hopkins University.  Johns Hopkins is the organization that labeled Richmond High School a “dropout factory” back in 2006, when the school’s graduation rate was just 54 percent.  Since then, the rate has steadily risen.  Just a couple of weeks ago, the state announced that the new RHS graduation rate was 79.6 percent.  Joanna Fox from Johns Hopkins will attend a breakfast on Wednesday morning to hear about what’s occurred at RHS to elevate the rate so dramatically.  Lots of community leaders are also expected to attend.
